The Yin & Yang collection of mugs is inspired by the artist's travels.
In Eastern philosophy, Yin-Yang represents the two complementary forces in life.
Yin is the symbol of femaleness, earth, darkness, passivity, and absorption. It is present in even numbers, in valleys and streams, and is represented by the tiger, the colour orange, and a broken line. Yang is the symbol of maleness, light, activity, and penetration. It is present in odd numbers, in mountains, and is represented by the dragon, the colour azure, and an unbroken line.
Yin and Yang stem from the Ultimate (taiji). Their interplay is what the universe is all about.
The idea of yin-yang is ancient, but nobody is too sure of its exact origins. Though there's evidence that it formed a major part of a Chinese school of cosmology in the 3rd Century BCE.
The Yin & Yang mugs have original artwork that is illustrated and painted by hand, transferred and digitally printed.
The Yin & Yang mugs make for ideal gifts.
